TJASHA GAFNER, harp & MAUD PAQUIS (vocals)
The friendship between Tjasha Gafner (harp) and Maud Paquis (vocals) goes back a long way; the future musicians first met at nursery school. Tjasha is now one of the leading classical harpists of her generation. A winner of numerous international competitions, including the prestigious ARD Prize in 2024, she performs on the world’s greatest stages. Maud, for her part, has chosen the path of jazz. A pianist, singer and songwriter, she has two albums to her name and places creativity and improvisation at the heart of her practice.
Both artists were keen to collaborate on a joint project. The idea of ‘reinterpreting Schubert’s Winterreise’ seemed obvious . A landmark of German Romanticism, this song cycle is also one of the earliest major song repertoires: a territory at the crossroads of their artistic sensibilities. As a result of a week-long residency at Villa Pineta, the duo will present their reinterpretation of Schubert’s Lieder — a freely adapted version for harp, piano and voice, where tradition and improvisation engage in dialogue, and where two musical journeys finally converge.
