DESCRIPTION:TJASHA GAFNER\, harp & MAUD PAQUIS (vocals) \n\nFranz Schubert : “Winterreise” reimagined for harp\, piano and voice\n\nThe friendship between Tjasha Gafner (harp) and Maud Paquis (vocals) goes back a long way; the future musicians first met at nursery school. Tjasha is now one of the leading classical harpists of her generation. A winner of numerous international competitions\, including the prestigious ARD Prize in 2024\, she performs on the world’s greatest stages. Maud\, for her part\, has chosen the path of jazz. A pianist\, singer and songwriter\, she has two albums to her name and places creativity and improvisation at the heart of her practice. \nBoth artists were keen to collaborate on a joint project. The idea of ‘reinterpreting Schubert’s Winterreise’ seemed obvious . A landmark of German Romanticism\, this song cycle is also one of the earliest major song repertoires: a territory at the crossroads of their artistic sensibilities. As a result of a week-long residency at Villa Pineta\, the duo will present their reinterpretation of Schubert’s Lieder — a freely adapted version for harp\, piano and voice\, where tradition and improvisation engage in dialogue\, and where two musical journeys finally converge.

This is the harp’s domain. Yet the instrument holds a far greater wealth of expressive possibilities\, as the award-winning harpist Tjasha Gafner demonstrates time and again in her concerts. The charismatic Swiss musician has established herself as an artist who expands the boundaries of her instrument with both virtuosity and a spirit of experimentation. As the repertoire is limited\, she readily transcribes works for the harp or collaborates with composers who write new pieces tailored specifically for her. In her concert in the cellar of Eberbach Hospital\, she unfolds the immense sonic range of her instrument\, spanning from delicately shimmering melodies to rich chords and thunderous basses.
